Silicon Graphics set a goal to get 1 million downloads for their new 3D Virtual
Reality Modeling Language (VRML) browser: Cosmo Browser. This software enabled
users to view the first ever online 3D comic strip and visit other sites featuring
VRML. Silicon Graphics needed to create an advertising buzz and gather momentum
for this innovative browser. The heart of their campaign consisted of series of
advertising banners placed on every major search engine: Yahoo, Excite, Infoseek,
C|Net.
We created these alluring banner ads, enticing users to click through to Silicon
Graphics' Cosmo Browser download page. During the first 3 weeks banners were placed
on C|Net, they averaged 5 times the average click through rate (one of the highest
rates ever for C|Net banner ads).
3 months after Silicon Graphics and Raspberry Media released the banners, the
1 million downloads goal had been achieved!
